 Wednesday, December 18, 2024: Roma... x6

Buon Natale a tutti!!
Sorella Briscoe and I got to go to Rome this week... 3 TIMES! (6 bus rides) hahaha. Sometimes all I can do is just smile and shake my head cause I love serving my mission in Italy. Rome is beautiful this time of year! On one of our trips to Rome we had our Christmas zone conference! It was so fun being all together as a zone. We had amazing discussions on the Atonement of Jesus Christ, sung carols, did a white elephant gift exchange, and ate a delicious Christmas meal prepared by the amazing senior couples in Rome! They're the best. The visitors center is so beautiful this time of year, there are nativities from all over the world, poinsettias, lights, trees, and Books of Mormon wrapped with bows! I love that place. It was the best getting to see so many people I love sooo much and celebrating together. I am so grateful.

On Monday during our mission family home evening Anziano Curtis, the director of the visitors center (who also happens to be a general authority seventy, author of Saints, and church historian 🫡) gave an amazing training based off a talk he gave in 2016 called "There is Power in the Book"

I recommend it to all of you! He shared powerful stories and miracles he has seen of the impact of the Book of Mormon in people's lives. He said one time a man was trying to convince his girlfriend to get baptized so they could get married in the temple. He took her on a date and asked if they could stop at his grandpa's house... who happened to be President Spencer W. Kimball haha! Well you know what President Kimball simply said to the girlfriend and the man? To read the book and pray if it's true! "That's what I did!" he said. I love how simple it is. The invite found in Moroni 10:4-5 is open to all.
Anziano Curtis said something else during the training I loved: "If you want to know the story of the Atonement, you read the Bible. If you want to know the meaning of the Atonement, you read the Book of Mormon."
I invite you all to ponder on that and the importance of reading both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. There is power in the books!! I love the scriptures.

For pday today our district took the train 30 minutes south to a little town called Ortona up on a hill overlooking a big harbor. It was a beautiful 60 degree day and we basically had the whole town to ourselves! We went in a castle from the 1300s, got gooodd spaghetti and hot chocolate, and walked along the beach by a lighthouse!

Last thing - if you have a spare 30 minutes while you're driving/cleaning/walking this week, give this speech a listen!

I love you all and wish you all a very merry Christmas!! 🤍
