i survived my first volcanic eruption πŸŒ‹

This week was so crazy and so so good LET'S GO!

First off- mt etna blew her top! Lowkey scary but also such an adventure! Sorella Roney and I were on a scambio (exchange) and walking to English class when suddenly we felt a weird sensation on our arms and faces, we're looking at each other like whattt is this and then she points to my hair and says there's all these black pieces in my hair! We turn and look towards etna and see the BIGGEST PLUME OF SMOKE I have seen in my entire life and realize IT'S RAINING ASH?!?! Definitely an eerie experience and also so sick at the same time haha. Don't get to say you survived a volcanic eruption everyday lol. It kept coming down all night and we woke up to a winter wonderland... except it was black! 🫣 Something I'll never forget was walking out and seeing people shoveling their driveways and sidewalks... of ash from the volcano. All the Italians are so chill about it and they even love it they're all like "grazie mamma etna!" and "ah la terra da madre etna!" Haha it's pretty funny.
Anywhoooo then they announced we're in a drought. So we're hanging right there in the about to go into survival mode but not yet haha. just kidding we're thriving.

I love the concept we learn from Ammon's story: "win the hearts" of the people, then teach.  (Alma 17:29) For those who are preparing to serve a mission a piece of my advice would be: Wherever in the world you serve- win the hearts of the people. Whatever language you are called to preach the gospel through- learn the language well. Whoever they are in the world- love them the way they are. Pray for this blessing of Christlike love! I know God will send it to you.

I love the Italian people. I love the way they get offended and say "mangia! mangia!" if you leave anything on your plate. The old men with gold chains and crazy back stories who probably are retired mafia but they're so nice hahaha. I love the old ladies pulling their groceries in their little carts. I love the food and culture and language. I even have come to love their crazy driving... okay maybe not that one yet lol- we'll get there.

Miracle time!
We had zone conference this week! Sooo good and Spirit-filled as always and so fun to have a mega sleepover in our tiny apartment once again. Le sorelle di Sicilia inspire me and it is so fun to be all together! Sorella Wall and I walked out of zone conference and saw some anziani from Palermo waiting at the bus stop talking to a lady. They waved us over and introduced us to Lucia! She had been meeting the sorelle but lost contact somehow. She was so excited to meet us and is planning to come to church with us this sunday! Boom!
That night we had lesson zero with Giusy (the lady we met on the street who had no interest in religion) who I talked about last week! Lesson zero is what we call our first lesson where we state our purpose, explain we will be helping the person toward making a covenant with God, and find out the needs of the individual! Then we gave her a church tour and she loved the paintings. One thing she said that I thought was so sweet was "you are all such happy people, it's like you have this inner peace". So cool she could feel of the Spirit and see the light of Christ in us! I'm so excited for Giusy!!

Also I tried octopus this week- SO GOOD 10/10 recommend!!

Don't forget to read the book of mormon! ;)
